Equality Objectives

Equality Statement

At Carterton Primary School we are committed to promoting and upholding equality, diversity, and inclusion in accordance with the Equality Act 2010. We believe that every individual, regardless of their age, race, ethnicity, religion, disability, sex, gender reassignment, sexual orientation or any other protected characteristic, deserves equal rights, opportunities, and respect.

Our school's commitment to equality is reflected in the following key principles:

  1. Equal Opportunities: We provide a safe, inclusive and supportive learning environment where every child has an equal opportunity to thrive, regardless of their background or personal circumstances. We ensure that all children have equal access to high-quality education, resources, and extracurricular activities.
  2. Eliminating Discrimination: We actively work towards eliminating all forms of discrimination, prejudice and harassment within our school community. We promote a culture of mutual respect, understanding and acceptance, fostering positive relationships among pupils, staff and parents/carers.
  3. Inclusive Curriculum: We offer a curriculum that celebrates diversity and promotes inclusive teaching and learning practices. We incorporate a wide range of perspectives, cultures and experiences to ensure that every child feels valued, represented and empowered in their educational journey.
  4. Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND): We recognise and respect the rights of children with SEND, ensuring they receive appropriate support and accommodations to fully access education and participate in all aspects of school life. We work closely with parents/carers, specialists and external agencies to provide personalised support that meets individual needs.
  5. Staff Development: We invest in the professional development of our staff, providing training on equality, diversity and inclusion. This empowers them to challenge bias, promote inclusive practices and foster an environment where all members of our school community feel safe, valued and included.
  6. Accessibility for All: Carterton Primary School's Accessibility Plan is drawn up in compliance with current legislation and requirements as specified in Schedule 10, relating to Disability, of the Equality Act 2010. School Governors are also accountable for ensuring the implementation, review and reporting of progress of the Accessibility Plan over a prescribed period. This Accessibility Plan should be read in conjunction with the Special Education Needs Information Report.

Monitoring and Review:

We regularly monitor and review our policies, practices, and procedures to ensure compliance with the Equality Act 2010. We engage with stakeholders, including pupils, parents/carers and staff to assess the effectiveness of our equality initiatives and identify areas for improvement. We are committed to fostering a culture of equality, where diversity is celebrated and everyone feels included and valued. Our aim is to ensure our pupils fulfil the school values to become respectful, responsible, and compassionate citizens who are kind to each other and contribute positively to society.
