Welcome from the Headteacher

Carterton Primary is an average sized school situated close to Carterton town centre.  As the original school in Carterton, we understand the importance of our place within the town community.  Our school is situated near RAF Brize Norton and 30% of our children are from service families.  We welcome children to CPS Nursery from the term after their third birthday.  The Nursery is situated in the original school building, which has been renovated to provide a light and open indoor room with direct access to a large outdoor space.  The children have access to quality provision in a rich learning environment.  For more information about our Nursery,  please contact the School Office.

Our school values of respect, determination and aspiration are recognised and celebrated across our curriculum. Our curriculum has been developed to meet the needs of our children and we work on a two-year rolling programme led within our phase teams.

We love learning outdoors, and our large school site creates plenty of opportunities across the curriculum.  We have a Forest School area which gives a space for children to learn and play, and, of course, have hot chocolate by the campfire!  We have a school pond bursting with wildlife, some staying in the bug hotels the children have made.

Please enjoy looking around our website.  If you would like to arrange a visit to the school, please contact our school office on           01993 842502

CPS School Values

  • Respect – for ourselves and others in all we say and do

  • Determination – to overcome obstacles and reach success

  • Aspiration – to dream BIG and work hard to be successful

Welcome from the Nursery Manager

A huge welcome to Robin Class!

Hello!  I am Mrs Clarke and I teach in Robin Class.  I live in Carterton with my family and my three children all attended Carterton Primary School.  I have worked in the nursery for 10 years.  I like gardening, baking and listening to music.

I love working in Nursery and I am planning lots of new experiences and activities for everyone.

I am really pleased that you are thinking of joining Robin Class and look forward to seeing you soon!

Nursery Sessions

All children who qualify for funding attend each morning, Monday to Friday, term time only from 8:45am - 11:45am.  Children who qualify for 30 hours funding may also attend an afternoon session from 12:15pm - 3:15pm.  There is a lunchtime supervision charge of £2.50 per day to cover the lunchtime session, charged half termly.

Where pupil:adult ratios allow, we can accommodate bookings for additional paid sessions for children who qualify for 15 hours funding.  These 3 hour sessions are charged at £18.40, which includes the lunchtime supervision charge.

How can I help my child?

In school there are many ways for your child to progress on both an academic and a social level. We do however need the support of parents and carers to help your child reach their potential. These are some ways in which you can help:

  • Read with your child including story books, comics, recipes, newspapers, shop signs etc

  • Talk with your child as much as possible to encourage them to think and express their thoughts and ideas.  Chat about pictures in stories, favourite tv programmes, what they have done at the park, anything and everything can be the starting point for a chat!

  • Listen to your child when they talk - try to put away phones and screens and give them your full attention.  We can all be distracted by screens and to-do lists!

  • Encourage your child to recognise and write their own name e.g. when writing birthday cards

  • Encourage your child to look at text in stories and turn pages left to right

  • Count everything and anything, stairs as you climb, how many chips on the plate, jumps on a trampoline.

  • Spot and name numbers when you see them e.g. on doors, on book pages

  • Support your child to sing songs and move to music e.g. clapping, jumping, skipping

  • Encourage them to use cutlery when feeding themselves

  • Support them to use the toilet independently and wash and dry their hands afterwards

School Uniform

School uniform is not compulsory in Nursery but to keep your child safe please:

  • no flip flops

  • no wellies inside

  • no jewellery

  • dress your child to ensure that they can manage toileting independently
